This doesn't sound right. You should not give your number or card until you are actually hired. Sounds fishy to me and YES call and find out why they collected/copied your card number. Geez, I'd call right away. If you don't get the job, you may actually have a Dept of Labor , issue here. See what you find out by calling right away. You should have the job, if your ss# was taken.

Taking your SS Card is their job. Your resume is a legal document and they needed proof you are a Citizen before they put your resume into the Live File. If you are concerned, Ask.
What do you do with the SSCard Xerox after I'm gone?" They will tell you.

YES. Call back, pursue the job. Get the interview.

Never give up. The Mng is probably busy. Keep going back until you get a firm answer. I run my own company and I usually hire the most motivated person. There is no such thing as "bugging" the mng too much. It just shows that you are motivated to get the job. Mng's want to hire people who want to work. So, don't be afraid to work for it.

You should have never given them your SS#. They ran a background check and found you 'undesirable'.
Forget the interview. The business or company is obvisiously part of the current fascist government.
