Good book!!
I like "World According to Garp", "Son of the Circus", and "The Fourth Hand" by the same author, too.

Yup. I wrote an English placement exam for college based on that book.
Also, "A Prayer for Owen Meany" is the title.

great book, if you are talking about A Prayer for Owen Meany. I really enjoyed the particular sense of humor, that touch of magic realism ... It's a big joke and it is very serious at the same time, don't you think?

Provided that you mean "Owen Meany," I had to read it in high school; I think that John Irving is the sort of author who appeals to high-school English teachers. At the time, I thought that it was complete rubbish. I'm curious whether I would retain that perception if I read it again. . . my feeling is that I probably would. Irvings influences (Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Gunter Grass, Nathaniel Hawthorne) are all better than he is.

John Irving is one of my very favorite writers, and "Owen Meany" is one of his best, in my opinion. A terrific and moving story.
