I'm an atheist but I wouldn't be offended. I still 'celebrate' Xmas as a time for sharing and spending time with my mum. I'd be more likely to say Merry Christmas back to you with a smile. :-)

I think that it is more polite to say "happy holidays" because you don't know what religion I am and what holidays I celebrate. Also, by saying, "happy holidays," you can include New Years Day with that in addition to any other winter holidays. If you know a person to be Christian or that person celebrates Christmas, then it's fine to say "merry Christmas." I really don't think it's a thing about offense, but it's about being polite and acknowledging that not everyone celebrates Christmas.
I don't run around wishing everyone a "blessed Yule" or "happy Winter Solstice" because I know that not everyone celebrates that holiday. Wishing someone a happy holiday isn't about you, it's about the person receiving the wish. You should do your best to make sure the receiver is happy.
As for St. Patrick's Day, there isn't another major holiday within a week, and it isn't considered an exclusively religious holiday. Most people just go out and drink green beer. Also, March 17 is still winter, so your "spring season" wishing is wrong.

I would not be offended either way. Even if I would not celebrate Christmas (I do) I would not be offended if someone said Merry Christmas to me. Also, I know several people where I work who do not celebrate Christmas, but would not be offended if someone said Merry Christmas to them. Edit: Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, Merry Christmas really only covers one day. Happy Holidays would cover all similar holidays that people celebrate this time of year.

Merry Christmas!!! I know you asked for replies from people who would be offended, but I have to throw my two cents in as well!! Its Christmas for Pete's sake!! Its not X-mas and I refuse to say something else to spare the feelings of others! Lets see here; Christmas trees, Christmas carols, Christmas eve, Christmas day, ect.. IT IS CHRISTMAS!! If you don't like it then celebrate something else, but do not try to rob others of the CHRISTMAS TRADITION because it offends you!! This nation is quickly becoming a nation of cry babies and whiners. I know, lets call it something else and compromise our traditions for the sake of a crying minority that is offended by CHRISTMAS! Its CHRISTMAS people!! Deal with it!! You don't have to be a christian, but if your gonna participate in Christmas then participate in CHRISTMAS!

christmas will always be christmas; like boys and girls will always play with toys... it's not just tradition, it's a celebration of the birth of Jesus... and i don't see any reason to be offended being greeted "merry Christmas"...

Jews, Secularists, and Atheists like to rag about this issue. As for the Jews, this is a great way to be rapidly unaccepted in our society.
