The true Classic Rock Album of all time is The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band. If you mate wants to start a classic rock collection - this CD should be the cornerstone.

Doobie Brothers - The Best of the Doobies
Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic
These are CD's that are chock full of excellent songs that are consistently listend to today. Other CD's like Led Zeppelin 4, Boston, etc. had good songs on them, but only a few on the CD. The CD's I suggested have at least 6 good songs if not more on each.

Kiss- i would get a best of, they have a lot of songs i like alot of their hits
deep purple-there live albums are good, again there best of albums have all the good songs
the beatles- white album
the who- anything!

Depends on what kind of classic rock you're looking for.
Soft rock: can't really go wrong with Queen.
Hard rock:Metallica or Motorhead

I say ACDC or Queen...my mom says van halen, Boston, or ELO (electrical light orchestra) kind of the classic rock techno stuff...pretty good thou
