I think you've got the quote turned around. They DO want to die with their boots on because that would mean they died in battle rather then lying in bed or something.

Because they need their soles protecting due to the high kill rate they achieved in life. And they're a devil to take off. Some manage it with their last dying breath.

It's the other way around, "They died with their boots on." and if I'm not mistaken their boots and cheap Brut cologne was the only thing they had on.
