If you take it for granted that an orgasm can be pain relieving -- "The body's natural painkillers, called endorphins, are released during orgasm..." -- am I nuts to think sex as late as possible before delivery a good thing not just to induce?

Thanks for the chuckle... I am NOT being rude, I just thought this is "cute" funny.
OKAY,lol, YOU WILL NOT WANT THE SEX! If you are due for your baby to be born , then nipple stimulation will start the contractions. PAIN RELIEF?????
Guess what , lots of luck with that. However, endorphins will be produced during labor due to the anticipation of YOUR baby. Don't get trapped into pain meds... they SLOOOOOW down the whole process and then you have pain LOOOOONGER. Plus your brains won't care that you just had a BABY... instead they will be saying "pooooooor meeeeee".

My 1st baby i was induced 10 days after my due date. I got to 5cms with no pain relief and then decided to try some gas and air which just left me sick so i stopped. My son was born after 15 hours of labour. 2nd baby i was induced 8 days after my die date. I had no pain relief at all and i had my daughter after 14 hours. 3rd baby i was induced yet again =[ I was 7 days after my due date and within 30 mins of being induced i was in labour!! My baby girl was born after 6 hours, no pain relief this time either. Im 33 weeks pregnant and dont intend having any pain relief this time either! As u work on a labour ward can u tell me if any ladies after 3 inductions hav ever went into labour naturally without induction? Im soooo hoping to have a natural all round birth this time. But a few people told me id most likely hav to be induced again =[ x

Yes it is, just remember NOTHING in the vagina after the waters have broken, not him, not you, not even the doctors fingers.

But there are, of course, other ways of acheiving orgasm that both relive pain and speed up labour. Assuming of course that labour is even painful to begin with, which it isn't always for all women.

Have fun. (Oh and this link is just for you, not the other people on here: http://www.unassistedchildbirth.com/sensual/orgasmic.html )

I think some of that may be true. With my first son we didn't have sex the day I delivered and boy was that a painful long deliver!! With my second son we had sex a few hours before my water broke..and the labor was a breeze!! In my opinion as long as you feel good do it alot lol! GOOD LUCK

The reason sex is suggested is NOT for a pain reliever. The hormones in a Male's Ejaculation help to induce labor. Ask your doctor, and S/He will explain it all to you.

To Angel Baby: Get your FACTS straight before you start name calling ( which is against yahoo regs, I might add! )

"Semen contains prostaglandin, which is a hormone that is in commercially prepared medications that we use to induce labor," he explained. "So, there is a thought that maybe sex is doing the same thing as commercial preparations. Also, maternal orgasm is associated with contractions," he added.
