Vista is going to have all of the first edition bugs show up in it no matter how much testing is done. It will be a good OS, but if yo are mainly interested in Media, then I would just get the Media Center as it has been around for a while and more people can help you with it if you do run into a snag.

Right now, most companies are offering free upgrades to Vista Home Premium if you buy a PC (laptop or desktop) with Windows XP Media Center. That is, when you buy a PC with Windows XP Media Center, you get a mail-in rebate that entitles you to a free copy of Vista Home Premium and Home Premium is the Media Center version of Vista, in case you were wondering. The Winsupersite has more if you're interested, http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/winvista_02.asp
Again, note, PCs that come with Windows XP Media Center are the ONLY ones that get the upgrade to Vista Home Premium. I beleive there is a free upgrade to Vista Home Basic with Windows XP Home but that is a version of Vista you DO NOT want.

before everything you do no longer choose something Vista in case you haven't any longer have been given Vista yet, secondly, once you improve to Vista you will no longer have any choose for Media version any further, thirdly, Vista residing house Premuim and Vista suitable the two have the Media center function onboard natively. So, do no longer hardship, you're lined. in case you're making waiting for the Vista improve, pass to the Vista Readiness website and run the Vista Readiness gadget. it quite is elementary to apply and grants comphrehensive archives on your gadget compatability and what if something you ought to exchange or do away with with the intention to enhance whilst it comes time. remember, in basic terms the OEMs might have Vista whilst it first comes out, it quite is not quite till the middle area of this year in the past Microsoft will make Vista available for guy or woman client purchase. nicely, busnesses get it too. So, in case you ought to purchase any utility now, basically make useful it says it quite is Vista like minded, then you relatively are lined. do no longer purchase something that may not Vista compatable, nonetheless manufacturers are affirming they might have updates in time for whilst Vista is out for us client clientele to enhance.

I have been watching TV on my PC since 1999. I am on my second TV/video card. The first is still working but has some physical difficulties based on technology alone. But I still use it on my second computer. Check out Hauppauge.com. Best solution out there for my money. Plus, they now have a USB stand-alone solution which can go from PC to PC.
I actually bought the first one for analog "home video" conversion. The TV option was gravy. I do not work for Hauppauge or have any connection to them except as a satisfied user.

You should wait until Vista works out all the bugs before you put it on your new laptop.
