I'm not sure they're mutually exclusive. Can't you seek momentary pleasures that are ethical?
Morality to me just means doing your best to understand others and living by the golden rule ("do unto others").
To place your question in an extreme light (just for the purpose of illustration), zealots (be they religious or political or whatever) feel like they're living by a strong moral code of ethics and do seek momentary pleasures (the pleasure of judging others and feeling superior.....). Hedonists live to experience momentary pleasure but can do so without harming others (which to me means they can have a strong moral code of ethics).

Personally I mix both strong moral codes (40% of the time) the remaining 60% I'm wild, seeking momentary pleasures-
Probably because I'm selfish.

With no offense, morality and ethics are not conjoined twins.
Morality deals with self and it's effect on others. Ethics deals with prescribed manners of conducting ones affairs.
BTW, to live a spontaneous, exciting life, living in or seeking moments, doesn't strictly define an immoral or unethical life.

You are comparing apples and oranges. There is no reason why you can't be both. However, If you are asking wether or not a moral life is essential, it depends on if you want to look back on your life and feel good about it or if you just don't care.
My philosophy for choosing an action: Consider what your love, your fear and your most violent temper would want you to do...almost always, two will be close and that is the answer you truly want.
If you don't like the answers, look at your character for the changes you need. Sorry if this might seem vague but it is what it is. Good luck.

I guess that depends on how you view this life. If this life is all you have, and then you die forever, I'd say suck all the fun you can out of it and just enjoy. But if you believe that this life is only a short time here on earth and that afterwards you will spend eternity in either heaven or hell, you might want to reconsider your moral ethics.

You need both to give you a well-balanced life style...You should be spontanous to liven up your life, but at the same time you should not break any of your morals.
