Open that thing now and water it well.
There is nothing delicate about bonsai.
These plants want to grow to full size, but can not because they are in a small pot. Most bonsai need to be kept outside year round, unless you have a tropical.
One these plants really dry out, they will die.
I have probably 30 different bonsai and only bring them in for a party when others can see them, otherwise, they are outside every day. The longer your plant stays inside, the weaker it will become. Always remember, when was the last time you saw a juniper or pine tree thriving in someones living room.

Put it somewhere with ample sunlight, I suggest removing the packaging to be on the safe side because plants need proper ventilation too, especially when the packaging does not have holes. Also water thoroughly (not letting water accumulate below though) when you feel that the soil is dry. However, do not overwater it. Once a week is okay for winter, just don't let the plant dry out completely. If it's hot weather you'll need to water at shorter intervals as the soil dries out pretty quick.

I would suggest that you water it. Bonsai trees are very fragile and they need a lot of care. Keep the soil moist, but not soaking.
Also, where did you purchase it? If you got it at a place like Target, Home Depot, etc. you need to check to see if the stones in the pot are glued in so that they will not move. If they are glued, you need to repot the tree. The glue keeps the water from getting to the tree and the tree will die.
Goodluck!

It should be fine until she receives it. I bought one from an online store a couple of years ago and from the time of shipment to arrival and eventual retrieval by my friend, it was over a week and the tree was fine. They do not need a lot of watering and in fact keeping the package closed retains the moisture.
Nice gift!

Bonsais need daily watering and misting because of the very minute amount of soil they grow in in order to keep them small.

Oh. I think you should check the tree. how is the solid condition? Wet or Dry? If it is dry I think you should water it. and the best way you warp your bonsai: warp it with a clear cover so that you can see it.

It needs water....open the wrapping, water it, let it drain well, and rewrap it just before you give it. I have a feeling you received bad care instructions, so please let me know the species of tree and I'll give you complete care instructions.
