basicly the green house effect is the atmosphere (the sky) reflecting more light back to earth than it lets out. This would cause rising temputure..disrupting the normal cycles of..well everything. If temps continue to rise it will cause the polar ice caps to melt...ever see...Waterworld?

Basically greenhouses are really warm and moist (but controlled) environments that are heated by the sun. The greenhouse effect on a global scale means that as we destroy our atmosphere the sun is going to make the planet really hot.

The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without these gases, heat would escape back into space and Earth’s average temperature would be about 60ºF colder. Because of how they warm our world, these gases are referred to as greenhouse gases.

Here goes, non-scientific as possible. Know how when you park your car in the sun in Phoenix and two hours later come back and its hotter'n hell in there? Well, that's the greenhouse affect. Sunlight comes in the windows, heats up the seats and everything else inside, but now its trapped in a "box" and the heat can't get out, so it just keeps getting hotter and hotter. That's why those sun shades on the windows work so well; they keep the suns rays out of the "box". HTH, HB

Layers of gas in the upper atmosphere, including carbon dioxide, that reflect heat and infrared and stuff like that back down to the planet's surface - which would otherwise have escaped. Heats the planet up, changes weather patterns, generally considered to be a not-good-thing (although some dispute this).
(well, you did say NON-scientific)

The thickness of the earth's atmosphere traps heat at the planet's surface. Simple.

well its how the waste gasses interfere with the ozone, like polution the exhaust gases from your car produce a gas that reduces the ozone layer and when that goes the earth will look like Mars.

it means carbon dioxide is bottling up all the heat from the sun and preventing it from getting reflected back to space thus making earth warmer.mainly caused due to polution.this all i can simplify!!!

It is definitely NOT a social phenomenon. Therefore, you might want to put this question into the correct category.

When it gets hot as sh*t, because of radiation seeping in thru our atmosphere, because the ozone is being sucked away from all our chemicals in the air (aerosol, car, truck, plane emissions, factories etc..........
WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE SOON!!!!!
Merry Christmas
