Absolutely not! Christmas is all about children. If adults are so hung up on getting presents, then shame on them!!!! I hope no one is giving you a hard time about that.

In my family, money is tight for almost everyone, so we only buy for the kids, and with the adults we do a "white elephant" exchange. example: Guys buy a guy present, gals buy a gal present, we put numbers into a hat, everyone (adults only) draws a number and picks a gift according to their gender. We have alot of fun with this, and that way at least everyone gets one gift. We also put a $10 to $25 dollar limit on the gift, so that the expense is kept to a minimum.
But otherwise no I do not think it is wrong to buy just for kids and not everyone else. My opinion is that kids don't really understand why the "can't" have a present, so by all means get gifts for the kids, and the adults should know better than to expect a gift after all as adults isn't it more important just to be together and celebrate than to expect to be given a gift

No. The adults in the family will understand or at least they should understand that christmas isn't about presents. The kids on the other hand look forward to presents. I don't have a lot of money this year either and my friends and family understand that. They realize I won't be getting them anything and still love me so its cool. If you feel guilty about it then maybe you could do dishes and help clean up after xmas dinner.

well if the family knows that what u are going for then i'm sure you'll be okay but christmas isn't jsut for kids its for everyone! so i thin kthat you should have bought the adults at least a cheap bottle of wine or ur family could think about doing it this way! all the couples by the other couples one joint gift and the kids pick names outta a hat and who ever they pick thats who they buy for no more. it saves money and brings the family closer instead of it being all about how many gifts and how much spent.

I think adults are just that...adults. They understand difficult financial situations arise from time to time. Perhaps all the adults in the family should do a Secret Santa and buy only 1 adult present (spouses excepted!!!). This will save everyone time and money. For this year, though, a nice handwritten card will do.

Give them 'future gift' cards. In an envelope, enclose a small piece of paper for a dollar amount, redeemable anytime after New Years and before next Christmas.
It will show the adults that you still want to give them something, at the same time letting them know politely that you couldn't afford it at the present time. You could even fancily customize the 'future gift' cards so that the extra care and presentation shows them that you do care about their present. And since they are redeemable wherever or whenever, you could even host a 'future gift card redemption night' and have everyone turn theirs in to get their presents.

Not at all, especially if you have a large family. Mine is huge, and that is what we do. If you feel bad about it, bake a cake or cookies or buy a bottle of wine for the adults in the house. You can also write something to them as a gift. I am 9 years older than my sister, so one year I wrote her a letter telling her all that I remember when she was a baby. Everyone cried, it was a special moment and did not cost a penny.

I thought that Christmas was mostly for the kids anyway. I know as an adult I get more of a joy watching my son opening presents then opening presents myself.

It's only wrong if the other adults are expecting gifts.
Here's a solution that works for my family: we do presents for youngsters, but the adults get home made baked goods.
A nice banana bread tucked into a basket with a pretty tea towel and tied with a red ribbon looks snug and is always well received!

I have 13 siblings and 26 nieces and nephews! It is literally impossible to buy for so many people so I dont. My family has discussed the problem and we have agreed to keep Christmas for the kids, usually we give the adults a lottery ticket.
