After watching another poor performance from Middlesborough last night including Stuart Downing's performance, don't you agree that surely on form at the moment Matty Taylor should get a place on the left for England in their next friendly, do you think Mclaren will pick him or continue to pick Downing because he used to manage him, im probably biased being a Pompey fan but surely a valid point.

Yeah Gareth Barry should also be considered, Downings got to go though.

Yes I'm definetly biased aswell, as I've been a Pompey fan for ages and Taylor has always been my favourite player, so I've always started chants, "TAYLOR FOR ENGLAND", but now he defenitely deserves a chance, if Downing was in Taylor's current form he'd get picked, so Taylor should be chosen.

However I agree that I doubt will see it happening unless Cole, Downing, Wright-Phillips all get injured.

But we will get to see if Mclaren is any different from Sven, picking players in form instead of who they are.

Ok ill add another name to the mix in a minute, got to agree matt taylor is a fantastic player who is worth a look in a friendly definately, he has 100% got goal of the season so far, i think joe cole is still the man for the job though at the moment and i agree stuart downing has got worse and worse, i heard steve mclaren on a radio show the other day and he told villa fans that barry would be in his next squad, the one i shall add is Leighton Baines of wigan, i think hes class.

Downing should not be in the England squad.
a season or two ago he was really sparkling and deservedly got a call up but is suffering from second-season syndrome (where a player or team follow up a terrific season with an abysmal one like West Ham)
i think Cole is our best bet on the left but with Gerrard, Cole, Lampard and Hargreaves we have got four pretty central midfielders there and no real wide men, which is why i would like to see Aaron Lennon come in and give us some real width and pace (leaving out Lampard and putting Gerrard in the middle.)
i reckon that Matthew Taylor should get into the squad but until he plays for a 'fashionable' club he may not get that chance, no matter what form he is in. (just like Crouch was banging the goals in for Southampton but didnt get an England chance until he signed for Liverpool, and James Beattie not getting a chance at all despite having a great goalscoring record a few seasons ago)
i would lke to see Barry or Taylor on the left but i doubt whether it will happen for a while.

It has to be Joe Cole - Stuart Downing isn't fit to play down the left hand side for England, England's U21's, U18's or Schoolboys fot that matter! He's garbage!! I'm better than him (at scrabble!) Matty Taylor deserves a chance if nothing more - along with Kevin Nolan & a couple of others.

I think Matty Taylor deserves a chance ,also Gareth Barry could do a job ,currently England's left sided players are Downing and Richardson, who never plays for man utd ,so yes in my opinion MC Claren
will call him up for the next squad in place of Richardson.

On current form I'd pick either Taylor or Barry. They deserve a chance.
It's not just left midfield that need sorting out either. Leighton Baines should be given a chance at left back. As for the vastly overrated Cashley Cole, best left back in the world? He's not even the best left back at Chelsea.

Gareth Barry should be included in tht english team he is a fantastic player.

I think england is really lackin some1 who crosses the ball just like beckham did, and barry is the man for th job.

a possibility bring back beckham

in terms of the form at the moment matty shud get a chance, but i think as long term LMF for england its gotta b joe cole. barry doesnt beat players n crosses, he will just go in that already packed english CM n try to pass, ys its the same with j.cole but cole can beat players.

with downing...omg can we just forget him altogether?? he's simply not gd enuf...the only reason he is in the squad n fighting for that england LMF place is...he is left footed!!!

Dont think England has many choices in that position. Maybe Joe Cole or Wayne Bridge might do well. Barry seems better in central midfield.
