(Toshiba Portege 3480CT)

"600-MHz Pentium III processor (SpeedStep), 128MB SDRAM, 12GB hard drive, 11.3-inch TFT display, LAN Port Replicator"

If these are your system specs I would recommend installing “Windows 98SE” or "Windows 2000". Vista is not an option, with a memory upgrade XP is. given vista's requirements you might as well buy a new laptop altogether...

Unless it is a really old laptop it should have Windows XP on it. Upgrading usually depends on what version of Windows you are running. If your laptop has Windows Me you may need to go out and buy Windows XP software and just upgrade. Windows Vista is out in January or February 2007 so you could just wait and get the new Windows Vista when it comes out and just upgrade to that.

Windows 95

It is not possible to upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows XP or Windows Vista.

You will have to get the full version of either OS, as long as your Portege supports it.

It depends if you bought it used it might be running on windows XP still but most new laptops are running on window's media center now.
Yes you can upgrade any of your laptops to windows vista you just have to pay for it if its ot already on there which can be costly.

This all depends on the processor speed, amount of RAM installed and size of hard drive. Check the specs of your computer and compare them to the minimum requirements for XP or Vista too see if it would work. If not, Windows 2000 is the next best thing.
