Accepting responsibility for problems which aren't yours. Blaming others for your mistakes and continuing to do the same things which brought the original problem. Trying to fix problems which are beyond your power to fix effectively. Making enemies who in turn undermine your efforts. Focusing on the short term and neglecting the long-term implications and complications. Assuming that you understand the problem without getting the perspectives of others and a larger picture perspective. These all tend to make our problems worse, but I'm sure that the one's which relate to the opposite side of the pride spectrum (negative thinking) also apply just as well; i.e. getting too large a picture, too diverse of perspectives, waiting too long to act, or taking too little risk. The general theme seems to be either thinking too highly or too lowly of oneself and one's abilities to problem solve.

Problems are solved by working on them.

Some behaviours that make problems worse.

Ignoring the problem. (Oh, we don't take those threats to fly planes into the world trade centre seriously)
Complaining generally (Muslims are bad bad people, so bad, they wear funny hats....how does that help...really)
Not accepting help. (Why can't Iran just butt out of the Middle east...really, how can know about fixing civil wars).
Not believing the problem is a problem. (No, we have everything under control in Iraq).
Avoidance (Ok we can't find Mr Laden, let's invade Iraq instead)
Making a mistake or problem, then running away from it (ie, withdrawing from Iraq now)
Blaming others (Bye Bye Mr Rumsfield)
