It's all a matter of personal preference. I prefer tampons and on my really heavy day, I use both (the ultra thin maxi pads of course!)

It's your personal preference.
As some responders have indicated, tampons are a great alternative when you want to go swimming or are wearing close fitting clothing. They should be changed every 4 to 6 hours. Look up toxic shock syndrome on the internet.
As for pads, they should be changed each time they are exposed to air (each time you use the bathroom) because the natural bacteria in your body and the menstrual fluid, when exposed to air, will develop an odor which could be embarassing. Pads should also be changed every few hours, especially if you have a heavy flow. There are individually wrapped wipes made by Massengil and another company, whose name escapes me, that are useful to wipe the surface of the vagina after you use the bathroom. They are safe and don't irritate since they are made for the delicate area. These can be found in the same aisle as other feminine care products.
Again the use of tampons or pads is a personal preference. Either method is effective. If you have a heavy flow and use tampons, it's a good idea to use a pad as a backup in the event of overflow.

Depends on your age...if you are under 16 I would suggest a pad. However, I prefer a tampon and have been using them for 18 years. It depends on what is most comfortable for you. Some woman can never adjust to a tampon so they stay with a pad.

It depends on what you prefer. Tampons are good if you are swimming, exercising, or have a form fitting outfit on so that they aren't visible, but you have to make sure to change them ever 4 to 8 hours and make sure that you have the right type for your flow pattern. Pads you still need to change every 4 to 8 hours and you need to make sure every once in a while that you are using the right one for your flow, but it might give you more of a peace of mind. Just remember that this completely depends on the person and what they like to have to deal with.

Depends on what you prefer and what you're doing. Chances are, if I'm laying around the house in a pair of sweatpants--pad. If I'm going out dancing with a bunch of friends--tampon.
It's good to alternate. Definitely don't use tampons for too long because that's not healthy, so I recommend alternating. :)
