Actually, your chances of making any money off of Adsense are quite low. You will spend your own time signing up for Adsense, running through the tutorials, and getting the ads set up. Then you will host the ads and watch your money slowly build up. However, before you actually get paid, Adsense will send you a generic email telling you that your account has been suspended because of invalid activity. The email will have nothing to do with your website and will be the same email that they send out to every other small website publisher. They give you a form to appeal this and they will either send you a second generic email or not bother replying at all. You will not understand why they suspended your account and you will have no way to get it reinstated. They will then pocket whatever money they owed you.

You could build a website where people pay to download an 'Information Product', a file in electronic form, such as MP3 music, adobe acrobat files containing eBooks (electronic books), eZines (electronic magazines), specialised reports such as consumer product best-buy recommendations, fashion, movies, any hobby or interest, etc.
People would pay by some electronic means, such as Paypal or Nochex or credit card and be able to download the files. You don't have the hassle of shipping physical goods and you can sell an unlimited number of copies.
Often, its a good idea to have a separate 1 or 2 page website dedicated to each eBook or other product.
You don't necessarily need to create the products yourself. You can license them from the authors.
You can set up an 'affiliate scheme' to get other website owners to advertise and promote your site in exchange for a commission.
