At 17, yes, very normal. And don't worry that you're bleeding so heavy...I had 5 or 6 days like that when I was your age. Hang in there, it actually gets easier and smooths out with age.
But definitely talk to your doctor, if nothing else, she/he can reassure you that you are fine. And if it is one of the EXTREMELY RARE problems that is causing this, they will be able to help.

Has your period always occured like this? If not, I certain recommend the doctors appointment. At this rate you are almost certainly anemic, but also have underlying medical issues.
Ensure you see your gynocologist also as he/she can perform scans and x-rays to determine problems, such as polycystic ovarian syndrone or endometriosis which may be causing these symptoms.
In short, these symptoms with regards to your bleeding is not right, but every females period is different! I am also worried for you, so please get it thoroughly checked out. If your gyno/doctor suggest the contraceptive pill as the answer please make them perform the scans also.
My doctor tried to brush off my heavy painful periods as normal and made me try every contraceptive pill under the sun to no avail. Once I went to my gyno I got a clear and concise treatment and diagnosis. No more pain and no more heavy periods!!

its probably due to the fact that multiple eggs are released when you ovulate, hence the heavy bleeding when they do not get implanted on the uterine wall.
See a doctor anyways, because of if you are having cramps that could mean that your uterine walls are contracting abnormally
Avoid sugary foods! those make my periods heavier and incease cramping
Try exercising as well! works like a charm! your body is gonna release testoterones ( which you already have, naturally, in small doses!) they work to really slow it down
Hope that answers your question!
Goodluck girl!

I am glad you've booked an appointment cos it sounds from your question that this is not how your period usually is. The golden rule is that if there is a noticable change in your period its worth checking out. not sure of your age, but in late 30's on wards really heavy periods can be a sign of a growth in your uterus. if you're younger, its probably nothing to worry about (Stress etc) but worth checking out.

No this is not normal. Is your period normally this heavy? I recently had to go to the doctor b/c I had been bleeding since 9/30!! He ran some test as well. I advise you to keep your doctor's appt. and I hope all is well.

Yes this is normal for some woman or there could be something wrong if your doctor checks you and he/she says they can't find anything ask him/her if taking birth control is right for you to help control the bleeding and cramping. It was a life saver for me.

I wouldn't be too concerned. That doesn't happen every time I am sure? Mine does that sometimes too. It's natural. I would go to the doctor just because I wanted to know but I am sure that you are fine!

It all depends. How old are you? If you are young then no. If you are an old timer like me it is the symptoms of getting to but not yet, Perimenopause.
