If you want to bet on a fight, there are human fights where the participants have a choice. If it's just gambling, you can bet on sports or anything. (Can you believe I had to change that to rooster??? Come on people that is the correct term!)

The entire fabric of norms and sanctions in a culture reflects that culture's values and priorities. That is, the most cherished values will be the most heavily sanctioned; matters regarded as less critical(like animal game fighting), on the other hand, will carry light or even informal sanctions.Implicit in the application of sanctions is DETECTING violations of norms or obedience to norms. Hence, a person or group cannot be penalized or rewarded unless and until someone of POWER to provide sanctions is aware of the actions. In short, such actions like dog fighting, may be "pleasurable" since they are illegal and hidden from the eyes of the powers of law enforcement. In the end, this type of behavior speaks to certain members of society who want or need to rebel against the power structures of society.

I think that they are all the same...cruelty to animals. Rooster fighting is illegal so I'm not sure that it is culturally OK in the south(they don't all sit around marrying their siblings and fighting roosters) and in my opinion bull fighting should also be illegal. People that do that to animals even if they are "just" chickens or dogs are awful people.

It has to do with how people view animals. Some societies and countries do not respect animals or think they need to be treated fairly. It is those people who find pleasure in such things. And of course there are those people who simply enjoy seeing other living things suffer. There are a fair number of sick people around.

It comes down to our roots, originating back to stoneage/caveman times, when man was most primitive.

People are also curious about dying and death - therefore watching this type of violence helps to satisfy these peoples "dark" sides!

It's nasty inhumaine and cruel - however there will always be a minority who get excitement out of the cruelty of animals!

yes, i can believe you had to change it, even though it's the right term. anyway, some people are not sensitive toward the suffering of animals. i believe those same people are not sensitive toward the feelings and suffering of their fellow human beings. i think it is a cruel practice, and those guilty of it should be shown no mercy and should receive the most severe penalty allowed.

I'm not sure what you mean by "this day and age", like we have evolved into a just, peaceful, intelligent race of humans. This is so far from the truth.
