Do you think that Askers tend to choose the answer that they wanted to get, rather than the answers that seem more plausible? There are very often askers on here with hidden (and often not so hidden) agendas. This most often seems to be the religious and philosophical questions. So what do you think? (Please answer by saying, "yeah you're right, the askers should not choose best answer")

Should the asker be ALLOWED to get away with appalling spelling and grammar?

A sizeable proportion of the questions on here are not really questions at all - just a bunch of statements where, if an answer is required at all, it will be an answer that conforms exactly with the Asker's proconceived ideas and prejudices. As an example I don't suppose for one moment that a single Creationist has ever said "hey that Evolutionist guy made a valid point" when asking for the millionth time "if man evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?". They just select the answer that's closest to their own concept without even thinking.

I think it depends a lot on the question. For many questions, I wouldn't trust the asker to identify the correct answer (indeed, I've only been here a short while and I've already seen more than a few askers select a patently wrong answer to their question). But for other questions, the asker is certainly qualified to assess whether or not a particular answer helped them gain insight, find needed information, etc.

Personally, I'd like to see more incentives in place to get people to vote more often on questions (and that may include a way to vote on whether the question itself is good, bad, just plain stupid, brilliant, incoherent, etc). Then, when a question is resolved there could be two answers listed: the answer chosen by the asker, and the answer chosen by the voters (along with an indication of how many people voted, and how many votes that answer received).

Yeah, I'm right. The askers should be allowed to choose the best answer.

But the asker should have to wait three days to answer.

The Asker has the freedom to ask...why should they not..have the freedom to choose the best Answer..??...(everyone can put a different connetation on everything they read or see...as in, police witnesses to crimes..every witness will give another version of events)..I am saying that the Asker is the only person who knows in which context they are truly speaking, therefore they would be the best ones to judge their answers....Hope the above makes sense to you, in the nicest way and...Merry Xmas from Downunder....

I think a lot of people do post and "reward" those who are posting comments that agree with what they hope to hear. It doesn't really irritate me when the Asker chooses a best answer, it's their points. What does irritate me is when I get thumbs down for posting a truth they don't want to hear, like if they are being selfish or something. They don't agree so I get the thumbs down but it doesn't mean my answer wasn't true or legitimate, it just means it ruffled their feathers.

Depends on the type of question I guess, if it is advice... you hear what you want to hear but it's the best for you at the time.

If you are a person that counts points then as you have lost 5 by asking a question it seems only fair that you decide who gets 10 for best answer but hey!... In the great scheme of things does it really matter?

I agree with your point (does that mean you will choose mine as the best answer?). Especially political or race-based questions seem to be looking for reinforcement rather than information.

It also doesn't work when the asker chooses an answer that is simply wrong, which happens regularly in the math/science area. For some, I don't know of it is because they really don't understand the answer and so choose from among them, or they just quickly and randomly choose one to get it out of the way.

of course the asker should choose. I don't even pick the "best answer" as my best answer most of the time. I pick most creative, or weird, or funny. and why should anyone else get to choose it? You can vote on the answers if you like, give em a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
And mostly, who gives a crap about "best answers" and their hidden agendas? so what if they get 10 points. so what??

Asker should choose who answered the question they asked best.
