Yes it is, because it follows international safety standards. Always check while opening paypal is that the address starts off with https://www it should not be http://www. Notice the 's' after http. That shows you are accessing a secured server, and look for the lock sign on the bottom left corner of internet explorer. These r the signs that shows the site is secured. Although it is suggested that you should use a good firewall and an antivirus.

Is Paypal Safe?

No service is safe enough unless both ends are perfect. Paypal is famous and have been trusted by thousands worldwide. But malware and poor network security on your side can compromise your details. So take care that you have updated security software a well as a firewall installed. Never access any online money transfer service from a public computer.

No! I had £700 taken from my account in October. The customer services people at PayPal are a bunch of ignorant s**theads, completely unhelpful and not sympathetic, they don't care if you've had money taken from you and don't seem overly fussed about helping you get it back a.s.a.p. When I rang them in a panicked state they just talked me through how to report it to them by filling a form in online, then assumed that would be fine and I could manage without all that money for the 2-3 weeks they said they might be able to get it sorted out in. Really did not care that I had gone over my overdraft limit and was being charged £30 a day. They told me I could claim that back by faxing proof, then when I did that they denied ever receiving a fax, then emailed me and said it was not possible to do that.

I got my bank involved, and then PayPal finally looked into what happened and coughed up so I got my money back. I had to book a half day's holiday last minute to get it all sorted out, and was really stressed. My bank were brilliant, PayPal didn't give a stuff until I cancelled my direct debit with them and closed my account, funnily enough.

Don't use paypal! It's not safe, they let people send themselves money from your bank account, don't alert you to it til it's too late (I didn't find out til I got a nasty letter from my bank for going overdrawn), and don't give a flying f*** about helping you out or correcting their mistakes. AVOID THEM. Know it's a pain in the **** paying for ebay stuff with cheques, and that that can be dicey too....but it's better than going through what I went through.

PayPal is as safe as they come. In addition to the secure connection (which is encrypted when you sign on), you want to have additional security running such as a firewall, anti-virus and anti-spy. There's free anti-virus programs from AVG and for a free firewall, I don't believe there's none better than ZoneAlarm. For spyware, you could always download the Yahoo toolbar addon for windows explorers such as IE5, IE6 and IE7. The Yahoo toolbar includes an anti-spy utility. Whenever you connect to a secure site, you should see a padlock on the status bar, or if you're using IE7, you'll see a padlock beside the url (web address) locator. The padlock tells you you are connected to a secure (encrypted) site.

Setting up PayPal is easy so long as you have a bona-fide email address. You will need to set up a Direct Debit (small sum of around 21p and 18p) so confirm & finalise your PayPal account. I use it for eBay and other transactions and have had no problems whatsoever. I believe PayPal is owned by eBay anyway.

Yes and no.

The only time I've had a problem is in buying software from ebay. Ebay traders can be a bit free and easy with the copyright laws, and I got a dodgy copy of a program once that the seller wouldn't refund. Both Ebay and paypal let me down there - the guy kept the money (£35). But I've done dozens of online deals with paypal and only that one went wrong. Check your vendor ratings first - that's your best defence.

I have used paypal for over 2 years now and never had any problems with it. I would say it is safe

Yes it is safe. However, you are only covered from fraud by paypal if both you and the person you are buying from or selling to are 'confirmed' members. You have to go through a few steps to make sure you are confirmed (you may already have done this) but it's on the main page.

Hope this helps & Merry Christmas
