First put in the sum =x/y (to calculate x as a percentage of y). x and y can be the names of cells - for example =A1/A2
Then highlight the cell and either:
Go to Format in the top toolbar, Cells, click on the number tab and scroll until you find Percentage. Click on that, adjust the decimal points, click OK.
Or on the icons toolbar there may be a button with a % sign on it. Click that and hey presto!

to get a percentage you first divide the number by the total number and then multiply it by 100
so to do it in excel you would choose your cell, lets say b3 and you want to find its percentage to the total number which is displayed in B6 so you would type in your cell you want it to be displayed in:
=B3/B6*100
and it will give you the number.
if there is no total displayed then you would input the total as well, so it would look like:
=b3/200*100
then again if there are just numbers then you would do the same sort of thing
=60/600*100
and then you would get the total.
Hope this helps you

Click the cell that will contain the result then click the "=" on the toolbar. Enter the formula (or choose it from the list if it's there) and, when the values of the other cells are required, click the respective cells. When you've entered correctly the whole formula, press "Enter".
