This time of year is hectic for mail services! If your order was from a company, call the customer service department to follow up, however overseas orders usually take 4-6 weeks. and becuase of the holidays, you can pretty much count on it being closer to 6 weeks. If your package was shipped privately, call the sender to find out if the package was sent as accountable mail. If it was, then you should call the post office because it could be lost, if it wasn't sent as accountable mail, hang in there, it could take awhile.

If it went US Postal Service then I'm afraid this isn't unusual for surface freight (road-sea-road). Get onto whoever shipped the item and ask them how they shipped it. If USPS then I'm afraid that's about it until it turns up but try the Royal Mail for advice to see if there's any way they can trace it - it could be sitting in a dusty corner...
If you shipper used any other method then find out who they shipped with and get the Tracking or Air Waybill number. Get onto the website for that carrier and check it out. They all have tracking facilities on websites and a contact line - although you'll need patience.
Good Luck!

It may be because US Customs is holding the package in an inspection center. All mail must pass through Customs. I don't know if outbound mail has to go through customs, but your country probably "inspects" the mail. It's been twenty days though, and that is a long time.

If it was sent ordinary US Mail, then allow 6 weeks or even more at the best of times.

it depends on wether the sender sent it by priority mail (air mail ) or surface mail vans and boats
