Would you agree with the above statement? I feel that a large amount of arguments over the life of Jesus could be avoided if it was agreed that his place in the bible is to show the Christian moral code.

People will never agree about relegion, but you do make an intesting question. If I were to agree that Jesus was alegorical, then the whole basis for my faith would be a sham. Christianty is more than just a "moral code." I put my faith in Jesus as a means of salvation both in this world and in the next. It is very real to a vast majority of Christians.
It is also important to remember Jesus claimed divinity, forgave sins, and accepted worship, these are actions only God can do. As C.S. Lewis says, and I paraphrase, if Jesus wasn't who He said he is (God) than He is at best insane and at worst a charalatan.
If He is not God, he is insane or a charlatan... is that someone you want to show a 'moral code'?

I would say that Jesus could certainly be seen as an alagorical figure. His life an teachings can be used as rough guides by which to live, similar to Plato's Alegory of the Cave. Plato showed how man can limit themselves to living but a shadow of an existence... which with the growing technology in the world, I certainly believe to be true, However, the Life of Jesus and his followers can certainly show people "The Way, The Truth, and the the Life"

Most things in the bible are alegorical...jesus did exist..we can see that from historical documents (not bible) but his healings/miracles are mostly stories to show the moral code / ideas of christianity
