I'd like to give each family member an ornament for their Christmas trees - an ornament featuring a picture of the recipient with my precious precious father, from a Christmas past.

This is our first Christmas without him.

I have the photos gathered, digitally and otherwise, but have no ideas. I am a crafting neophyte, but I have quick access to a Michaels and am also willing to consider ornaments made by others using my photos, but I don't know what those would be either, or how to find them.
Thanks for you help and Merry Christmas.

sees to me someone would make tiny ornament frames for such projects.

My kids have made cardboard frames (cut it out with an Xacto knife) for photos. you could make small Christmasy cardboard frames with a loop of ribbon to hang them on the tree.

First off .... I am very sorry to hear of your loss and i think this is a wonderful idea you have come up with to help with what you and yours are going thru!

There are lots of ways to go about this ... Depends on what you want to do ...

Michaels / Joanns ....
has lots of premade wooden ornaments that you can insert a photo into and all you have to do it paint the wood ... I cant paint so im not for that idea .. but you may be able to ... when you are done before the picture is in spray it with a clear gloss or since its christmas they have a sparkle glaze that is just a lil bit of sparkle and it s sold with the lil wooden delta paints and then you have a clear coating to make it shine and it will last

michaels also has in the spray paint area a lil can made by krylon and its called PRESERVE IT! get this its well worth the money you spray a lil of that on the digital picture FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and you may haev to practice with it ... lol ... but this will keep the picture around for more years ... and it wont fade ... and for what you are doing this would be definetly something you would want to do

you can also go to the michaels and joanns websites and they have a project bulletin board on odd crafts ...

i have heard you can buy a clear ornament ... the round bulbs and you can put some shred paper in the bottom glued down and then roll your pic insert it in the bulb then with a paint brush [since its long and skinnny] you can un roll the pic and place where you want it ... i have never really seen one and i dont know what that would do to the pic ...

heres a website on how to do that tho ...
http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/ornament.html

if you have any kids you are givin ornaments to ... they make foam kits to put ornaments in as well ... with glitter and fun ... you can get a pack of 30 at michales for 7.00 plus use htat 40% coupon in the newspaper ..

i found this site for you ...
http://genealogy.about.com/cs/holidays/p/ornament.htm

if you are talented and get this to work i think that would be an amazing one to do ... the pic of the one done looks AMAZING!

also ck out krylon.com ... they have weird things to do with their adhesives ...

and look at bhg.com .... better homes gardens

I hope this helps you get the ball rolling and you get these done in time to be the way you want

a great thing to google

HEIRLOOM PHOTO ORNAMENTS

good luck and i hope you have the merriest christmas that you can given your situation ... remember he is with you and am guessing hes very proud of you for helpin remember him in a special way and doin what you can to make this christmas ... okay ...

if you go to hobby lobby, they will probably have some kind of plain ball ornament and maybe a flat circle one would be better. you could cut the picture into an oval, framing their face and get christmas scrapbooking paper. first glue the scrapbook paper all over the ornament. then take the picture and glue it on top. maybe sprinkle glitter around it. or get stickers to write their name on it. for glue use modge podge. once everything is glued on, put at least 2 layers of modge podge all over it so that it stays on. oh yea, on the back you can put December 25, 2007. 1st Christmas. etc. if you like this and have questions let me know. oh yea, you can also make photo ornaments at walmart, but they may be expensive, i dont know. good luck!

simple enough i think. What you could do is get some garland with shapeing whire in the center of it. Then just glue it around the boarder of the photograph. you may want to go to the dollar store or something to add a little extra. I'f your feeling a little more crafty i can give you more ideas underfear18@yahoo.com
