Actually.. when you replace that part.... or buy that part, it comes with both the LID and the SEAT together(hinged together) The lid, of course is what you cover the toilet bowl with and it closes down on top of the toilet SEAT

Technically, it's not a toilet, it's a "water closet".The cover of the bowl is either elongated or round, closed or open front seats and lids. Commerical w/c's do not generally have lids.
