I think it should be the other way around, believe in others and trust in God. I believe all people have a potential for good and God has called us to trust in him alone and He has never given me a reason not to. It's not naive or nobal but what we should do.

I believe that God gave us wisdom and a free will to make up our own minds. We are all created noble, in "His" image. We can choose to reflect "His" perfection and beauty through our words and deeds.

i'm one of those "suckers". i always give others the benefit of the doubt until they (maybe) disappoint me... people can change or so they say! and as for believing in god... i do that too!! :)
