Blame it on us.... We are part of the 1 billion, have you ever thought why not me??? That is the problem here. We easily point the fingers at others and don't realise that even they will do the same thing. This is the main reason..
Also the Government of India is not doing a great deal in promoting the sports in our country.I hope everyone is aware that India spent nearly 28crores during the commonwealth games closing ceremony(at Melbourne) by paying the bollywood stars which could have been well utilised to improve the sports facility here..
Also the shooters in our country are given only 70 days of training when compared to other countries where they are given almost 3 times as much training as our shooters..Reason-->lack of funds(how idiotic) This is like asking a diver to practice in a pool with 1 feet water....
There are so many problems with the administration and all these reasons put together is causing India so many Gold medals which it should have won, but is unable to win....Our dear Mp's are only concerned about a stupid game called Cricket.. So I don't think our athletes can do anything fruitful unless an efficient Govt policy be drafted to ensure better infrastructure and facilities...

There isn't really any particular Olympic sport that Indians excel at. Sports in general maybe isn't as important in the Indian culture, as it is in some other countries.
This is not to say that Indians are athletically disinclined, but merely that there is not as much emphasis placed on succeeding in any of the Olympic sports.
I'm no expert, but probably it could be argued that the Olympic committee discriminates somewhat against non-western countries in their sports selection process.
