It's not okay for anyone to break their marriage vows. The concept that it is okay for men to cheat seems to be a hold over from Victorian times when women were subservient to men's wishes and demands.

Additionally I think the entertainment media, lack of moral teachings at home, and lack of teaching of personal responsibility are also to blame.

Being in my mid fifties, having five children, and seeing the way today's youth (in general) are a "ME" group of individuals I fear for our future.

Generally speaking, young girls are thought of as being innocent and pure while young boys are all but expected to be little brats and cause trouble. Young girls are put on pedestals as they grow up and aren't expected to become someone capable of doing the unthinkable. When they do, it's viewed as a deep scar or blemish in her character. Since young boys are usually expected to keep doing things wrong as they grow up, it's often times sought at as normal behavior. Parents on the other hand, act differently and have separate standards on how they deal when their kids when they do something wrong. Boys behaviors are talked about among family and friends, and girls behaviors are usually swept under the rug because they don't want anybody to know about it. So, when either of them cheat... Women are scrutinized more because of how they were treated as children. The only thing different about society now verses society of a hundred years ago, is women fought hard to be treated equally, and now... As times have been changing throughout history... Bad things women do isn't simply being swept under the rug anymore. They wanted accountability and are slowly being held to the same standards they set for men.

Just look at the society that is forgiving them. One that lets people starve, die of curable diseases, pollutes the atmosphere, kills unborn children, places the older generation in nursing homes to keep from dealing with them, but on the other hand, God forbid if we want to listen to phone conversations people are having with people in terrorist supporting countries.

Don't worry too much about what this screwed up society thinks.

P.S.... This society is run by men, that is why up until recently my insurance company would not pay for my wife's birth control pills, but will pay for Viagra.

in society men always have the reputation as a deserving gender (being a provider) and they do sometimes have few mistakes including cheating...they get forgiven easily bec. they just also know how to play around not like women are equipt to do.women on the other hand women are the more understanding...intelligent...trustworthy images of society so if time comes a woman makes a mistake it's UNFORGIVABLE!....it's unfair but back in the day men are allowed to sleep with tons of women, infact they are rewarded with women, and if the women sleep with tons of men they are labeled a whore/slut or sripped off of their dignity.
and yes if a man cheats it's always the woman's fault...either the mistress or his wife/gf.
this ideology is wrong in a million of ways but it has retained itself in the minds of many.
it's wrong!
men or women are equal and entitled to the same rules...cheater is a cheater no matter what

Actually this is not true. Although I do agree that in todays society it is more acceptable for a man to stray but it doesn't make right. Forget about our society, the whole thought of forgiveness comes from ones partner, man or woman.

I think mainly because it is not expected from women to cheat but it is almost a norm that a man will cheat at some stage of his life.

I don't think this is so much the case anymore. I think episodes like idiot Clinton have helped society to realise that it is not fair for anyone to cheat.
