Should we take an actor's opinion on politics serious? Do they use their fame to push their politics? Are most of them liberal because they feel guilty for having money or because being liberal is what is popular at the moment?

I think it is probably way past time for us lovers of the US to pay attention to this.

And boycott actors who undermine the leadership of this country.

Sean Penn's expertise on anything other than acting can be placed on the head of a pin with room left over.

In order for him to make a pronouncement of this kind he has to have an understanding of Constitutional Law. He doesn't. He needs to have a grasp of world politics. He doesn't. He needs an education to qualify him for politics and law. He doesn't have one.

I'll allow he has made a few movies that weren't too bad. He should stick to what he knows and put a sock in it.

As to President Bush and Vice President Cheney, mistakes have been made, but mistakes are not impeachable offenses.

I think celebs tend to let others do their thinking, perhaps such moneyed people as the ultra-liberal George Soros.

I generally ignore these people who really ought to have no fame beyond their work and who are overpaid to boot.

I think they publicize Penn's the most because in there eyes he is the easiest to demonize, he never plays the well rounded educated parts, you don't see the people like Ed Asner or Martin Sheen, Jessica Lange , just to name a few of a thousand more.

This is what they do nowadays, they just discredit the other side, look at the last few elections, The Pro War machine did not run on anything they have done good for the country, they ran on tearing anybody else apart who goes against them,

You know what happened to going by the truth, Their are so many uneducated people who get sucked into this whole US VS Them thing, What happened to right and wrong, no matter who mentiones it. I personally dont understand the crazyness of it all, but I was allways brought up with the thought process of questioning whatever party is in charge if something looks fishy

Sean Penn is a douche which is why he says stupid crap like that from the comfort of where he lives in other countries. Come on ova Mr Penn, and say that to our faces. If he hated our capitalist ways so much he wouldn't be making movies to send into our mainstream media. Ppl like him should take a page from the book "Fallin Like A Dixie Chick" b4 he attempts to talk politics. Celebrities are to be seen and laughed at, not heard. What a douche bag.

***SIDE NOTE
Lemme guess. The moron who posted right below me is liberal AND bitching about how much this country needs a change in leadership....and yet, goes on thinking those who make the most $$$ should be saying anything..if liberals were so damn smart they would see the plot behind the plant they claim is there in Capitalist America....and they would understand what I just said.

It's kind of funny and sad really. Liberals don't realize that Republicans support most of what they want.

Jobs? If you don't support big business you won't have any jobs. If you give too much to the labor, they will have to eventually have to lay off a bunch of people or close plants.

Environment? It was a Republican who started the state parks programs and reservations for animal habitats. The Democrats voted in NAFTA which enabled the big corporations to go to Mexico and pollute and dump all they want.. The EPA has no jurisdiction down there. Cheaper labor and no dumping and polluting fines all the while polluting our atmosphere even more.

Rights? The ACLU seems to be taking away more and more of our freedoms every day.

I agree with a lot of what the Dems (purists) believe, but they seem to have forgotten what that was because of all the special interest groups that clinged on board and put their two-cents in.

Republicans want to keep big Government down so the people in Geographical areas (States) can make their own decisions and run their own Governments. Dems want a federal rule. It's a fact.

Sean Penn like many other Liberals I can mention, has an alterior motive.

I wish all actors and anyone with a entertainment career should keep their mouths shut about their political beliefs. They only do it because they think their better then us and we care about what they think. I could care less about what they think.

And the only ones I admire are the ones that gave up their careers to pursue a political career. Like Sonny Bono, Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Edit: jmanoh - the thing is entertainers get camara time to voice their opinion (which is extremely unfair) where the avereage citizen doesn't. So they should respect the people that go to their movies and concerts by not voicing their political opinions on the air.

Actors, actresses, singers, musicians or anyone with a little fame have as much right to voice their opinion as anyone else. People usually only get excited about the famous doing so when it opposes their own opinion. I never hear C&W fans complain about Toby Keith's blatant support of Bush's war or Brooks & Dunn's support of Bush during the last election. They did however have a fit over one sentence uttered by the Dixie Chicks. Why? Well, what the Dixie Chicks said went against what many fans of C&W music thought and because as famous people a lot of other people heard them. When you talk about banning the famous from expressing their opinions you will silence the Dixie Chicks but also Toby Keith, and Brooks and Dunn. What will we do about singers like Toby Keith who use their songs to promote a political agenda? Will we say that if a famous person claims to be for or against abortion that they are making a political statement? What about if they express their support of stem cell research (a health issue as well as a moral and political issue)? Can actors under such a ban appear in movies that make political statements? Dr. Strangelove, MASH, Wag The Dog are just a few examples of hit movies that would cause problems under such a ban. What would we consider a "political" movie? Would Brokeback Mountain be considered political since it deals with gays and gay rights have become such a hot topic particularly for the Republicans? I think we should take famous people's statements for what they are, one person's opinion. We can agree or disagree and then move on. If you think they are an idiot for what they said don't go to their movies or buy their records. Don't however forbid their music to be played or movies to be shown. If most Americans feel as you do the demand for their movies, music, etc. will fade.

I think you nailed it. This is a complex topic. As a nation, we have forgotten that Hollywood actors are just people with a talent. We all have talents, and I think that a lot of us have undiscovered talents. There are actors who were in the right place at the right time, got a part in a play or movie and acheived national stardom. Others busted their tails to make it big. Regardless of how they got there, they all have a common thread: They have been admired, adored and lusted after for years. To have millions of people follow you, read about you, and pattern their lives after what they believe is you is a bit addictive. Their ego starts to grow, and some of these actors use this 'control' in ways that promote their beliefs. I truly believe the majority of Hollywood is liberal-minded because they live that kind of life. Look at how short many marriages are in Hollywood, and how easily they just throw people away and find another. The fame and attention given them makes them feel superior to the little guys like you and me. It's our fault they turned out the way they did. How many people does Russel Crowe have to hit with a phone for us to say, "I will not support your behaviour by paying 10 bucks to see your movies?" Most people give Hollywood bad behaviour a pass because that's just what we've grown to expect out of Hollywood. People like the bad boy or bad girl image.

Liberal actors want liberal politicians in order to promote the beliefs they have, and they believe that because so many people admire and adore them that they should have a say in politics. What's comical about it is that they get offended when we DONT listen. This goes to prove that they are so in love with themselves.

We have a unique ability to shut them up, but we dont use it. Actors who make no money get no say. If you see or hear about an actor that is a menace to society: check good trustworty sources (dont trust bloggers), and then STOP paying to see their movie! Stop paying for their latest CD! Stop buying the clothing line they support. If an actor does not bring money in, they will not get work. Hold Hollywood accountable for their actions.

Sean Penn knows as much about politics as we do. He is an elitist.

You should take their opinion on politics seriously to the extent that it is their opinion. I certainly wouldn't base my opinion on what their opinions are though.

Of course they use their fame to promote their political agendas.

I don't believe that most of them ARE liberal. I think there is a handful that talk louder and make outlandish statements that they draw attention. Their fans treat them like gods and some of them come to believe themselves that they are gods.

I suspect that there is a high percentage of entertainers that just go about their business, do their jobs and keep their political leanings to themselves. They don't make waves, they just go with the flow but when they walk into those voting booths they are as conservative as it gets.

There is a reason that Arnold Schwarzenegger has been elected to two terms in office in California.

Sean Penn needs to be institutionalized for being an A** Hole. The guy went to New Orleans with a camera crew and a publicist to drive around and not help just to tell the people he feels their pain. Give me a break. He is just looking for some one to take a picture of him. And will say or do anything for it, even beat up his wife.

I surely have examine Sean Penn's posting a number of circumstances in the past attempting to respond to this question. before everything, in spite of the reality that I agree together with his widespread element, his overly aggressive and insulting way in direction of the neocons could probably alienate people who might have in any different case taken care of his comments with the seriousness they deserve. with regard to the particular paragraph you're querying, i will't make any remark as to no remember if Iran is an incredible usa as I surely have not yet had the possibility to be there. What i will say is that Iran has an prolonged and influential background which has contributed very much to the form of civilisation. I have not have been given any thought no remember if Iran needs nuclear weapons or in basic terms a low carbon (green ability) way of producing ability yet, provided that a number of of the encircling international locations have nuclear weapons (India, Pakistan, Israel, China) i could see the argument for matching them. in spite of the reality that i'm not confident that the two nuclear ability or nuclear weapons are justified everywhere. Are the human beings of Iran super human beings? That to me is a extensive generalisation till you compromise for that anybody human beings are super till compelled to be in any different case. in my opinion, i comprehend some Iranians and function got here upon all of them to be heat, friendly, variety, beneficiant hearted persons. Iran is a promising destiny best pal partly by way of its geographical region and native effect: it would be extra suitable to have that effect helping you instead of against you: yet in addition because of the fact it has a youthful properly knowledgeable and forward finding inhabitants. Literacy expenses and lady greater training expenses are a number of the utmost interior the international.
