the funny bone is actually the part of your elbow where the ulnar nerve is most superficial. it is called that way bacause when that area is hit it gives you a tingling sensation.
Have you ever hit the inside of your elbow in just the right spot and felt a tingling or prickly kind of dull pain? That's your funny bone! It doesn't really hurt as much as it feels weird. The "funny bone" got its nickname because of that funny feeling you get after you hit it.

But your funny bone isn't actually a bone at all. Running down the inside part of your elbow is a nerve called the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve controls feeling in your fourth and fifth fingers. It's also one of the nerves that controls the movement of your wrist.

You get that funny feeling when the ulnar nerve is bumped against the humerus (say: hyoo-muh-rus), the long bone that starts at your elbow and goes up to your shoulder. Tapping your funny bone doesn't do any damage to your elbow, arm, or ulnar nerve. But it sure feels strange!

People sometimes mention the funny bone when they talk about their sense of humor. Maybe you've heard someone say "that really tickled my funny bone.

It's a "funny bone" because the reaction you get from hitting that part of it numbs it and make it FEEL funny, not laugh haha funny. The name Humorous is just the scientific name of the bone, which is also a reason it's called the funny bone, that's a nickname derived from the work Humorous.

Because the bone is actually called the "humorous"...hence the funny bone. When we smack it, it's not really the bone that's causing us pain but actually the nerve bundle that is located there.

The latin name for this bone is "humerous" which sounds like 'humourous' hence 'funny' bone.

The "funny bone" is actually a nerve at the elbow. The bone that it is at is properly called the "humerus," giving us the name "funny bone." This is the bone that supports the upper half of your arm.
