My right knee is stiff a bit swollen and I'm having difficulty bending it properly, I dont remember any significant cause but am wondering how you know if it's fluid or something else? I know I should ideally rest it up but it being Christmas week I am so busy at work I cant really let the team down and take time off. Any suggestions?

Pre-patella Bursitis or Housemaids knee is very common amongst people who spend a lot of time on their knees ie carpet fitters etc. The affected knee will appear a lot larger than the unaffected one and it will have a "jelly" like feel to it. This is due to the build up of the fluid inside the knee.
To help ease it elevation and rest is needed and maybe a course of diurectics to rid the body of the excess fluid. As a herbalist I recommend Nettle Tea 2-3 cups per day.
Draining the fluid by syringe and needle is only done if there is a risk of infection.

I have arthritis and have had fluid on my knee before. My knee was stiff and swollen like you describe, as I attend the hospital they drained the fluid off with a big needle. I must say this was the worst experience ever, it was painful and uncomfortable, I have had two children and would rather have a third than have fluid drained again! Go to your Dr for advice they may tell you to keep it up, I'm not sure what they do when the fluid has just occurred on it's own without injury.

i used to have this take place,my Dr gave me Naproxen, offered decrease than this call:Aleve i could think of there is inflammation interior the knee joint, ice it and attempt resting somewhat.verify, you replace the working shoes as long distance runners wreck the cushioning in a pair months. at last get an xray or MRI of the knee that's bothering you. i had to have the fluid drained off various situations and had various cortisone pictures. i'm no longer a runner!
