I seriously doubt the ink will harm your baby (it goes just under the skin--not into the blood stream), but with any type of tattooing or piercing, you run the risk of getting hepatitis, AIDS, etc. if the place you go doesn't use clean needles.

No way! Although tattooists these days are very cleanliness conscious, there is always a chance of infection with a tattoo. Don't forget it is an open wound. However careful you are with it, it may still get infected with bacteria like Staph. Why risk it just for a few month's wait? The same goes for tattooing in pregnancy. No reputable tattooist will do it. Surely the wait is worth it? Why risk it?

There is no evidence that getting a tattoo will affect breastfeeding. There should be no harm to mom or baby from the dyes injected. If you get a tattoo, the biggest concern for anyone (not just nursing moms) is infection (hepatitis or HIV)-- so make sure the place you go has good references and is clean.

I'd wait because anytime you get something like a tatoo you still risk the chance of an infection or reaction of your body to the tattoing pigments (I knew a girl who got a really nasty blood infection and another who had a staph infection ew!). I mean it's one of those things that yes people have done it but if there is even a small chance at complications just wait.

It is always safe to delay the tattoo. You never know what could be at the tip of the needle, unless it's your personal set and you cleaned it yourself.

You can delay until the baby turns one, yes?

you should wait on the tattoo until you are ready to bottle feed your baby.... anyway, its not like the baby is going anywhere. GOOD LUCK!!!

it is probably not a good idea to put yourself through the pain and trauma of a tattoo even if you have a high pain threshold and dont think it hurts you..... bc inside your body is sending out pain substances, inflammation cytokines, and in general putting substances (hormones like norepinephine) into your (and the babys) bloodstream!!! so i would highly recommend you do not get a tatoo until after you have the baby and then i would not see any harm in it.....and YOU SHOULD BREAST FEED FOR at least ONE YEAR!!! cant tell you how important that is for the health of your baby (antibodies transferred through breastmilk) and for his/her growth, IQ, and development!!!!

i would say no- u cannot donate blood within a year of getting a tattoo, so I cant see that breastfeeding would be safe if that guideline is anything to go by xxx
