I would happily avoid the comercial aspect of christmas. Having worked in a couple of different shops, put up xmas decorations in September, listened to the same carols and xmas songs everyday for three months, and dealt with all the miserable bar stewards who don't understand that if you have to order something on christmas eve you ain't gonna get it for christmas and blame you because they are crap at shopping for presents, I would gladly just have a nice meal with a few loved ones instead of the big party at which you have to eat yourself stupid and drink until you're sick.

Bah humbug!

I would never avoid Christmas it's a great time. Though everyone has an opinion, I feel Christmas is a wonderful holiday and i enjoy and look forward to celebrating it each year. For me it's all about family and of course celebrating the birth of Jesus, without him there would be noway, so I'm grateful and honored to celebrate and acknowledge Christmas and everyday after!

Heidi 4 i like what u wrote b/c it's so true i def agree with u too!! Merry Christmas and have a Happy new year!!!!!!!!!

Avoid Christmas? No. But I would like to change the approach. Expectations can be harmful to full enjoyment of the season.

There is too much emotion involved in the exchange of gifts, the mailing of cards, the holding of parties. Everyone thinks they "have to" do these things. When you feel that kind of pressure, you cannot relax and enjoy being with friends or family.

When did we begin to overlook what celebrations are about? It's not a contest to have to most/best decorated house, the newest cookie, the fanciest party dress, or the most expensive gift. To me it's a time to gather together and enjoy one another's company. To talk to each other. To share what has occured in your life, what you have been reading, a visit to a museum, a play you recently saw.

But avoid it...no, I cannot do that. That's my time to celebrate the birth of my Boss, the Jewish carpenter.

I think it would be pretty hard to avoid Christmas with whats in the shops and on the telly, maybe if you went to the Outer Hebrides's and booked a cottage in the middle of nowhere with no telly then you might stand a chance, this year though we have bought everyone on our list lovely pressies, we are going to avoid them all over Christmas and have this one on our own for the first time in 22 years, no stress, hassle or arguing, bliss.

Just take a vacation to a country that doesn`t celebrate Christmas! Saudi Arabia for example! Ignore all of the christmas cards and presents in your mailbox. Don`t decorate your home. Just ignore the holiday as much as possible and make sure everyone knows it!

There are many people, such as Jehovah`s Witnesses that shun all holidays including Christmas, so it is perfectly normal and acceptable to not have to celebrate it.

Yes & No.

I would not give up celebrating and honoring Christ on the day of his birth.

I would love to just ignore all the stupid commercializm, greed, stress, indebtedness, energy consuming lights with not a sign of the true meaning of Christmas displayed, partying where drinking, debauchery, fighting, drunk driving possibly killing oneself and other innocent people, buying for people we really don't care about.

Christmas is the Nativity of Christ. Christmas is for children and Santa Claus should be part of it and they should learn it began with Saint
Nicholas. Long elaborate lists of toys that are forgotten before New Years Day is not doing anything constructive for children or their families.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

No and I can't imagine why anyone would want to. However I have many relatives who are anti-Christmas and they seem to be able to avoid it just fine, if only for the fact that they go out of their way to isolate themselves from society and everything in it.

There is no reason I would like to avoid all the generous sharing of gifts, happiness and parties, even when I am feeling blue. I would just keep that smile up so that I may unconsciously brighten up someone else's day.

Considering that it's the busiest time of the year for The Samaritans and people get into horrendous debt I avoid it like the plaque! I enjoy the peace and tranquility of the country while everyone else is over eating and drinking themselves senseless. What's it all about anyway? Santa? Snowmen? Jesus' birthday? I don't think so!
