As well as the previous answers, try a local college. The New Clait course is for beginners and used to be free. Bug your tutor to teach you eacxtra stuff not covered by the course!
And if there are computer sessions at the local library then theres probably a librarian who's supposed to just get you started off and help if you get stuck, see how helpful they are when they're not too busy.
Check out Computer Active and Webuser mags and their websites too.

It's best to use a search engine to find what you want (yahoo or google).

If you have any questions about how to do anything/get anything working, prepare to learn a few things and type in questions to the search engines.

The more specific you are, the better. if you have a problem with a particular device, try to find the name of the device (e.g. aopen cd-rom 42 speed) and look at the manufacturer's website. This site (answers) is also good for getting answers to specific questions.

The main thing is: knowing what to ask and how to ask it. for instance, your question was not really specific enough to get the help you're looking for (whatever it is).

Readers' Digest have 2 books, one for computer use and another for internet use.
They are easy to understand, and very helpful.
If you can't afford to purchase new books try a secondhand book store.
