In the story the name of the dead partner is Jacob Marley. Scrooge's first name is Ebenezer. Both these names are significant. Both are Biblical names. Jacob was the name of the forefather of Jesus. God promised to Jacob that the Messiah would come from his line. Ebenezer means to be stalwart in service of God. Besides the obvious story of the redemption of Scrooge, there are many Biblical undertones to "A Christmas Carol"

Hope this helps

God bless
