pc,s can run slower for several reasons, virus infection, spyware infection and wear and tear of the windows system
first run both virus and spyware scans just to be sure you dont have any infection and then do the following
download advanced windowscare(http://iobit.com/AdvancedWindowsCarePersonal/download.htm),this will clean out your hard drive of invalid registry entries and temp files, also it does other scans for security ect,all these will dramatically improve the speed of your p.c
next go to control panel.>internet options>and on the general tab delete cookies, temp internet files, internet history, all these will slow down your p.c on line so you should do this at least once a week
for start up improvement go to run and type msconfig and then click the start up tab, then untick all the programs you dont want to use at start up,dont worry,it only deletes the start up items not the programs, after this restart the computer
finally the best way to improve p.c speed is to install more memory(ram),memory modules are cheaper than ever at the moment, a 512mb module is only £35 and a 1gb module can be bought for £65,go to crucial(http://www.crucial.com/),and use the scanner, this will give you a report on what upgrade of memory you need for your computer, you should print this out and take it with you when you purchase your memory,or you can buy the memory from crucial directly
also there are faster hard drives that you can buy to speed up data transfer times, allthough these are quite expensive.raptor hard drives cost around £70 for a 36gb drive and have speeds of 10,000rpm(revolutions per minute)
broadband routers should always be used with ethernet leads,if you are using a usb lead get a ethernet lead and connect this up,you dont need any drivers using a ethernet lead and the connection speed is 100m/bits compared to 56m/bits using a usb lead
good luck

I've had problems with my computer like this, it might have a faulty hard drive because if u had broadband of bout 8mbps and a slow hard drive it will not matter about the internet. Another problem could be spyware and adware i think i've got some on my computer now and it is diguised so i can't find it this slows it down. Also some filters cause the connection to slow down when someones on the internet. Or u could just restart it as sometimes it temporary. You could defragment it, it takes a while but could prove the cure

try defragmenting the hardrive. Defragging makes all the data on a hardrive in one place so it doesn't have to do so much work accesing programmes. Works for me evertiime i do it, a word of warning though- the first time you do it, may take a long amount of time i think mine took 5 hours before it was finshed 1st time.

Clean up the hard disk by going here and selecting cleanup scan. This cleans the registry safely and removes a lot of junk files.

Defrag your hard disk with Auslogics Disk Defrag. It's twice as fast and a lot better than Windows disk defrag. I defrag my big hard disk in about 20 minutes, as opposed to 3-4 hours with Windows.

you probably need to clean up the files and then you will need to run the defragmenter.

for the internet click on internet options, then delete all files.

or you can run the clean up wizard in the system tools section of your pc.

if you then defragment, you should nitice a bit of a difference.
