I've had a soar throat for a few days now and it becoming quite irratating. Besides the normal sprays you can buy, what other natural options are there for clearing it up?

Gargle with really warm, really salty water. As you are gargling, sing the alphabet (really). You'll probably only get about 5 letters out before you gag- that's your cue to spit, refill your mouth, and keep gargling. Do the whole alphabet song, including the "now I know my ABC's..." bit. Once you've done that, SWALLOW the last bit of warm salt water. Nasty, but very effective.

Drink LOTS of water throughout the day. By lots I mean drink a gallon of water today. Sore throats are from: A) dehydration, or B) infection. Water will cure the dehydration, and it will also help to flush any infection out of your body.

Injest some CAYENNE pepper. If you like to eat hot chili peppers, get it that way. If you have it in your spice cupboard, sprinkle it on/in something. If you don't like the taste in any way, shape, or form, take it in capsule form. If you have an infection, cayenne will help burn it out.

Take a ZINC lozenge. Zinc is really great for sore throats.

Hope you feel better.

put a teaspoon of salt in a mug of warm to hot water, stir until it dissolves, then gargle excessively with it. Eat right, drink lots and lots of liquids, and get plenty of sleep. No exercise, either. Go to the doctor if it persists for more than four days.

Try gargling with coarse cooking salt in 1/2 a cup of very hot water , let it cool and then gargle, make sure it is fully dissolved first.

echinaea, lots of vitamin c, elderberry, goldensil, nettle leaves, zinc, hot drinks of any kind and multivitamins. i do it every time i get a sore throat, and though it may take a while to help, it will make you feel better. honey helps, but its not the miracle cure it used to be. rest a lot and take hot showers. the steam helps. if you can find some eucalyptus oil, it helps open up you sinuses and that always helps a sore throat. its strong, but it works.

Before going to bed gargle with luke-warm water mixed with just a pinch of salt. If its been there for few days .. as you mention, then try gargling with soluble aspirin in 250 ml of plain water.

Zinc lozenges are excellent and are clinincally proven to help.

The other thing is to add lots of garlic to whatever you are making. It is a natural antibiotic/antiviral substance. You may be a little smelly for a while, but it can knock the sickness right out if you eat enough of it.
