Yes, Colin Firth captures exactly Mr Darcy's real character. Hugh Grant actually seemed too convinced that he was the most beautiful man on the planet (Yes, I know that he is! But he is also the most superficial.) And since Mr. Darcy's character in Pride and Prejudice was handsome, but not perter naturally so, and he was not superficial at all. With Colin Firth, you get the idea that he is introspective and smart and that he slowly falls in love with Elizabeth because he sees who she really.

Oh yes he certainly does!! And for a change the film totally lives up to the book, you couldnt imagine a better Mr Darcy than Colin Firth.

Firstly, yes, Colin Firth is Mr Darcy. No question. As to why all men can't be like Darcy, put that down to the breakdown of the class system and the nebulous role of men in modern-day life. We can't expect men to rescue kittens from burning buildings and exfoliate twice a week, you know! Take heart in the fact that men don't really change, and the minute Lizzie had that ring on her finger, Darcy was back to grunting monosyllabically at her over his Frosties quicker than she could say "It is a truth universally acknowledged..."!!

An arrogant MCP who got his come-uppance and lost his heart to a woman he thought, when he first met her, was not out of the top drawer and unworthy of him. Strikes me as being anally retentive. Pity Jane Austen didn't get round to writing a sequel describing their life together.
