Forgery is a crime....Except when the accused is your ex, then it is a domestic matter. Totally unfair set of rules that apply ONLY if you know the offender. YOU no longer have rights to the legal system in a domestic case. WHY???
Because if they ignore you long enough the case will just go away. You lose your pet and oh well, life goes on. I live in USA and it's the same way here.
Keep looking for lawyers & a way to show a judge the forgery. Don't give up!

Hi Chel,
The police were wrong, forging someone's signature is illegal and a criminal offence, It is obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception. They should have pursued the matter.
If you are in the UK go to the citizens advice bureau, they will be able to advise you. Also make a complaint to the independent police complaints authority. The police have a duty to investigate all crimes.
Good luck

First, ownership according to whom? A local government?? If this is the case, I would call the office of where ever it is that states he has ownership and ask them what you can do. You can solicit and take it to small claims court yourself. I would more than likely try to take the dog back myself and have my ex try and prove that it is his..but, I don't want to get you into trouble with trespassing or something else that might take place. Sometimes we have to let things go---even our friends.

First thing that any lawyer will do is to write a letter to your ex, register its sending and delivery with a statement of intent saying that if he did not return the dog then you will start legal action against him...
From there I have no idea how to legally prove that he has done anything wrong, but the statement and warning of court action has to be produced.

File a claim in small claims court. Unless your dog is valued at over 3,000 dollars, most lawyers would send you on your way.

Chel you need the Citizens Advice Bureau, they will advise you on the way forward and can help with information on Legal Aid etc.

The citizens advice bureau can best advise you, but perhaps you can take him to the small claims court with one of those no-win-no-fee lawyers?
