yet another teenage pregnancy case hitting the headlines. surprise surprise. not. who do you think is to blame for the uprising in teenage girls getting pregnant? what more do you think needs to be done about this in order to curb this problem? are your children being taught sex education at school and if so, are you satisified with the way the teachers go about it? if not, they should they be taught about sex education? how worse can this problem actually get? is the labour government in britain doing enough to promote and raise awareness on encouraging children not to have sex at an early age?
as ever, i welcome your views on this and many thanks

i agree with you who say that children should be taught about sex at a younger age at school, just so it will prevent the likelihood of them getting pregnant when they reach their teen years. though isn't it any wonder why britain still has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies throughout europe. now THAT has to be shocking

this blows me away! I'm 34 but at the age of 15 I knew about sex and that you CAN get pregnant the first time and that using a condom was the safest form. I can't understand where its all going wrong! Why do young people not know all this stuff?

Undoubtedly the people that are to blame are the youngsters that have sex!
Is this really a new problem? I think not.
What more could be done? I doubt that very much more could actually be done.
Some kids mature faster than others.. and sex is fun.. and they see it as a free and easy thing to do that brings untold pleasure... consequently some will get pregnant. It was the same when I was at school and when my parents were at school also.
You might as well ask the same question substituting sex with either drugs, alcohol or smoking!
All governments have done plenty to provide the correct story to youngsters... but since when have the youth ever listened to anyone in authority?
My wife works in secondary education and I am shocked at how much information/support is available to youngsters these days - and yet there is still and incredible amount of ignorance.
How much worse can the problem get? Not much more I think...It is as much, if not more, a family issue than an educational issue.
My 2 daughters have been bought up to repect themselves and others - whilst we have also been very open and frank about sex - I believe that we have approached matters sensibly - we care about our children.
Sadly I cannot say this about all parents.

I think we need better sex education and better access to contraception. I don't mean to sound like I read the Daily Mail (*spits*) but maybe there should be more teaching about relationships rather than just the mechanics of sex. Let's face it, these girls aren't going to feel that great about themselves stuck with a baby at 15 while the father is off screwing some other girl because she was only a fling.

What ever happened to the parents teaching the children about sex or the parents teaching the children about religion and God and morals and values and not leaving it up to a teacher who has way too many kids in the class and does not have the authority to make them mind or listen or be quiet so that the other kids can listen - the blame should be placed on the girl, AND the boy AND the girl and boys parents - take responsibility for your own

I've just read this to and was genuinely shocked. I do feel sorry for the young girl concerned because she has probably had next to no sex-education. I went to a Catholic school and know from experience how bad they are at approaching the subject. They put to much emphasise on 'relationship's' which of course it what we all strive for, a loving relationship, but the reality is that kids are having unprotected sex with whom ever they please, whenever they please. A lot of the problem lies squarely with the media whom will insist upon selling everything using sex and our kids are exposed to this from an very early age. Hope something is done about it real soon. :)

I was in The 5Th grade when they told us about periods and why we have them, but not about sex or babies. When I was in 9th grade, after some girls I knew already started having sex, they told us about safe sex. Condoms, Birth control pills, and all that stuff. I think that if someone wants to have sex, I don't think there is anyway to stop them. I think it awful that 13 and 14 year old girls are having sex with 25-30 men to try and get pregnant. With AIDS and everything else out there, its a scary thing to think about. I was young when I had sex with my now husband, and it was stupid, but I don't think that anyone could have said or done anything to stop me. And when most, not all but most, teens get pregnant, they don't mean too and they either were not told or were careless. I think that if you believe that you are old enough to have sex, you are old enough to face the facts and deal with a baby and pregnancy if it occurs. I know that there are people out there that don't agree with me, but maybe we should help our kids and tell them not to have sex, but if they do, use a condom and stay safe. I would prefer my child having sex safely, Rather then them not at all and ending up with a disease or a baby.

I think its terrible all these young girls....many come from broken homes with no father (not all)....I personally think that we need sex education at an earlier age as children are becoming mothers from as young as 11 or 10.
When I was in primary school (im 20) the young boys used to talk about blow jobs and if us girls would 'spit or swallow' - i had no idea what they were on about but obviously they were finding this information from somewhere
I believe in prevention rather than cure
