A lot like Bangkok except without the traffic jam and Thai people. There's also a lot of Indians there and it smells a little funny (most of India does). There's less prostitutes in Bangalore but more cows. Try not to go if you can but if you must then your survival kit will consists of

1) A towel
2) A set of bed linen
3) Air freshener

The third one can be omitted if you don't mind the smell of jasmine everywhere.

Bangalore is a modern cosmopolitan City in India. It is the capital of Karnataka State. It is the fast growing City in India, perhaps even in the World. It has the biggest IT industry next only to Silicon Valley in USA. You get every thing in Bangalore. You need not bring any thing from your place. Kannada is the language of the people. The Local Population is very friendly and cultured. Since you are from UK I can assure you, language will not be a problem, almost all the people can understand and speak English.During the pre-Independence days this is the most sought after place for the Britishers. This is a modern city with Malls, Supermarkets and Shopping arcades. But on the negative side I should admit that the Roads even though good are clogged with traffic due to sudden economic boom. Above all the Weather is the best attraction in Bangalore, very friendly through out the year. You will really enjoy your stay for six months. Welcome to Bangalore.

weather is pleasant. cost of living cheap considering expat wages. accomodation available but rents depend upon location. Better to have a local guide initially. most people speak english, though with a neutral accent. Local travel is by cabs or three wheeled autos. u are most likely to be swindled by the cab /auto operators since most westerners are deemed rich and make easy meat. no point complaining to Police since they are corrupt anyway. Ideally have a hired vehicle. Traffic is crazy and u need nerves of steel to drive around. shopping malls are plenty . Plenty of Pubs , but they all close by night 11.30 pm due to govt rules here. Outstation educated people are polite and helpful, but beware of the local uneducated ones. They love to pick a fight. Its a wrothwhile experience, more like an adventure. But have an open mind, u will probably love the place.
Hospitals are world class, so no fear on the health front. variety of food available catering to every taste , though a little spicy by british standards. summer clothing recommended ,since its warmer compared to british climate.
