I almost never dream about people I know personally or who exist in real life, and my dreams are almost entirely based on experiencing different vast, intricate and beautiful environments which are sometimes containing minor people or characters which are made up, depending on events in the dream. I remember every dream I have, and I’ve only dreamt of a real-life person twice in the last four months, and on both occassions it has been of Tom Waits, the musician.

My friend tells me that her dreams are entirely people-centered, especially people she knows, and her surroundings play a very small role. From what I’ve heard, most people dream of those they know. Why, then, are my dreams void of familiar faces?

You're an introvert, I am too and I rarely dream about people I know, like you said, just people that play a role in the dream, not many people I know make it in my dreams, I tell them that and they're like "What? How can you not dream about people you know?" and I respond "I just don't"

I agree a lot with AC. Dreams don't mean as much as people like to think. HOWEVER - I think they do represent what you're thinking about (sometimes maybe you didn't even know you were thinking about a place or a person - hence SUB conscience)
I don't remember every dream anymore - but I use to when I was young and single. Back before I had a family. :) Now I'm so exhausted at night I just fall asleep and then wake up. I dream, but not as often do I remember them. People have different levels of imagination - you dreaming of vast beautiful environments probably means you pay attention to your surroundings while awake...you're looking at the skyline and the mountains, or plains or beach or trees...or whatever is in view in your area. Tom Waite? Beats me. :) The first time I don't know what triggered that. The 2nd time you probably dreamed about him because you were so interested in the fact that you dreamed about him the first time.
As for your friend - she's probably a people person...or wants to be so she spends a lot of time thinking about people. So she dreams about them when she falls asleep.
Dreams are just our way of "thinking" while we're asleep. as long as they're good...enjoy! :)

Minds are tricky. In your mind, you probably subconsciously refused to see them in your dream. Finding some make up characters or things could symbolize your thought. It all depend on dreams, items could symbolize things as much real as the person's face. When we dream of the real people, that shows us the urgence or tense in our mind that they should live again in the dream. Again, it depends how life is and how the dream is.

Interesting - Tom Waits is such a downer for me - I mean really - maybe you don/t dream of people because they're just not relevant in your life right now and they probably weren't in Tom's either - go the lavender before you go to sleep and see how many people pop up

I think most of us are too obsessed with dreams and nightmares.
They mean nothing.
The people love to dramatize everything with their own perceptions. They write books about the real meaning of dreams etc etc while in reality dreams and nightmares mean nothing and have nothing to do with the real life.
