because I bought a house from an employee of an estate agency who expertly covered up defects that the surveyors couldn't pick up.Should I complain to his employers? The conning b*****d has cost me a fortune.

No. Don't complain to his agency. Get a lawyer. There are laws protecting home buyers from this kind of thing. If the real estate agent did not fully disclose all of the defects in a house that are required by law to be disclosed, then he is in one heap of trouble.

Some examples of required disclosure are mold growth, termite infestation, water/flooding problems, or if someone's been murdered or any other extenuating circumstances that may have happened.

Take your case to a good real estate lawyer and you'll be fine. Just be sure you have all of the details of the cover up written down when you go to the lawyer's office. Tell him when you bought the house, the nature of the problems that you found, and the cost that it took to fix the problems.
