West to East in Central London within a mile of the Thames: Tate Britain, Palace of Westminster (Parliament), London Eye, northwards towards Victoria, Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, past Victoria Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square plus Art Galleries, Piccadilly Circus, up Regent Street Carnaby Street, further north Camden Markets, back south again, Telecom Tower, 'The Gherkin' (Swiss Re Tower), slight diversion to Covent Garden, St Paul's Cathedral, 'The Wobbly Bridge' (Millennium Bridge), Tate Modern, Southwark Cathedral, the London Dungeon, Futher East: over Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Docklands, Millennium Dome, Thames Flood Barrier. There's tons of other stuff as well, plus the Museums (British, V&A, Natural History, Science, Imperial War, MOMI and of course stuff like Madame Tussauds and the Sherlock Holmes museum at Baker Street), really too much to list here.

As well as the traditional must sees (Big Ben B. Palace etc.) I recommend visiting the national gallery (free) and Fortnum and Mason down Picaddily. Also, the area around covent garden towards soho is worth a look.
The London Eye is worth the money (£11?), and is found near Big Ben.
Also remember that all non-private museums in London are free entry.
Enjoy!

You must go to the Hard Rock cafe. It is the original one. I also highly recommend going to The Tower of London to see the crown jewels. Also if you can get out to the country I highly recommend visiting the Roman Baths.
There is so much to do, I went last year and am going back in March because there are so many things I wanted to see but didnt have time for in a week. have a great time.

London Eye

Duck Tour - you have to go on the river and thsi is a good way - http://www.londonducktours.co.uk/

More ideas: http://www.enjoyengland.com/where/destinations/london/dg.aspx

Spend a morning walking along the South Bank after going on the London Eye, then Westminster Bridge to Parliament, then walk along to the Strand and Covent Garden, then to Picadilly Cirucs, then go the Mall and Buckingham Palace - that ticks off some of the obvious tourist spots.

Well, I would list all the regular sights but someone else will end up doing that. I will tell you, however, to find a Pizza Express when you get there. I've been all over Europe, including four cities in Italy, and Pizza Express still makes the best Margarita Pizza I've ever had.

Enjoy your trip.
