Hi
I´m german. I visited London with my school class a few month ago. Somewhere in a park we met some men and when they recognized we are germans they started shouting at us, that they don´t want Nazis to visit their country. I have nothing to do with this, even my grandparents were not born when Second World War started. So, do you think that all germans are still Nazis?

First of all, may I apologise for the people you met in London who were so rude to you and your friends. They were morons who ought to have known better.

But to answer you question... I truthfully do not know any body who still thinks Germans are Nazis - and that includes people of my generation, who were small children during WW2, and older friends who served in the armed forces during that conflict. Indeed, it is quite ludicrous to link present-day Germans (especially young ones, like yourself) with Germany's Nazi past - it is tantamount to criticising Italians for the deeds of their Roman ancestors during the Roman occupation of England!
I have several German friends - in different age groups - and they are just like every other decent person I know, and the lack of ill will between British and German people might be deduced from the following personal anecdote... Several years ago I traced the Luftwaffe nightfighter pilot who shot down my father's Royal Air Force aircraft during WW2 (my father and his crew were all killed). The former German pilot and I exchanged many friendly letters over the years. So I hope you will agree that I would not have done that if, as a Brit, I held the view that all Germans were/are Nazis. So please do not get the impression that a significant number of British people think like the idiots you met in London. They do not! Anyway, I hope your next visit to England will not be sullied by such boorish behaviour.

PS (5 hours after writing the above) Have you noticed that some one has given a 'thumbs down' to every answer saying that Brits are not prejudiced against Germans. Perhaps the perpetrator is one of the oiks who shouted stupid remarks at the Questioner.

I am very sorry to hear you were unlucky enough to meet some of our native English morons. Unfortunately we have quite a lot of these people around. They tend to live in the past and fit other nationalities to their own idiotic stereotypes. My guess is they would have abused you no matter what your nationality.
Some people, even young people who probably don't know anything about the war, refer to Germans as Nazis! Very strange as most Germans I have met have been the complete antithesis of a Nazi whereas I've met many English people with fascist tendencies.
For what it's what worth, most English people don't bear any ill will to Germans. We do get a bit miffed that you keep beating us at football though :)
Hope this incident doesn't put you off visiting England again, although I couldn't blame you if it did.

No, of course not all Germans are Nazis. I think most of the German people are appalled by what happened to the Jews, gypsies etc in the 2nd world war. These people you encountered in the park are ignorant and should know better.

I know for sure that Germans are normal people and have nothing to do with the whole Nazi rubbish.

Two of my best friends are German and they are the best :-)

I'm sorry those two idiots shouted at you the way they did :-(

I hope it has not ruined your view of the UK. There really are some nice people who live here :-)

NO, I don't think all Germans are Nazis. Hell, I don't even think at the height of the Nazi Regime that all Germans were Nazis.

Of course, there are many levels of bonehead in the world that just don't GET IT. The best thing you can do is just walk away, since you never know if that kind of stupidity is viral.

(I live with my own stereotype - I'm Australian, so I'm prepared for the inevitable questions about my pet kangaroos and/or koalas...)

how could all of one group be one way.
those people are nazis and bigots themselves for discriminating against you based on your nationality.
not even a percentage point of germans are nazis.
germans are smarter than most people because their country has been around for a long time, they are experienced. dumb people find them unpleasant because they can be perfectionists
at times, and they dont tolerate many mistakes from others.
you cant blame the germans for falling into hitler's trap of socialism and racism. many other countries did the same. but they are doing too much now to compensate for it, and it is taking them down. germans are very kind, good people, and if you don't like them, dont try to live in germany, and dont drive a bmw, mercedes, porsche, audi, or volkswagen. those people that were yelling at you in the u.k, many of them are of german heritage.

Germany has the Bundeskriminalamt, it relatively is the German equivalent of the FBI. i think if every person keeps an eye fixed on Neonazi activities it would be them. And particular, the neonazis do harrass foreigners, quite often those of dark epidermis shade. there replaced into additionally an incident the place they attacked some style of gay demonstration or experience, the place the singer of right reported Fred replaced into punched interior the face.

I live in America and it's not like that here. I've dated a few German girls and went to German festivals with their parents.

Some people are just stupid, if two 80 year old men were to meet one German and the other American and they had fought each other in the war they would be proud to see each other alive and probably become good friends.
