I got different answers in the past. Someone said I cannot use snow chain at all, because it will damage the car computer system. Someone said it is okay, as long as I turn off the traction control. Someone said I need to use a special snow cable. Where I can get the safe snow tire equipment for my honda odyssey minivan? Thanks.

Firstly, tire chains will not damage your van unless you place them on your mini-van incorrectly or they happen to come loose and fling off. When you are looking at buying tire chains or cables make sure you note down the tire size of your vehicle (Get this off your sidewall of your tire (Just an example (225/60R16)) .

Most tire cables you can get at Wal-mart or some autoparts store. When you are looking at cables some sets come with bungee straps. Which I think are a must to ensure the chains stay tight on the tire and will not come lose and create damage to your vehicles wheel well or worse fling off and damage the side of your car or moving components.

As someone has mentioned place the chains on the drive wheels (rear -RWD cars), Front - FWD vehicles, AWD or 4x4's I normally placed on the front as you get traction on your turn wheels, but some situations you may require them on the rear.

If you are worried about chaining up in the winter time, I would suggest getting a set of Winter Tires (true M&S tires) not all-season. You have the option of getting studded winter tires which help with braking on ice and give you a little more tracking power also when you start from a stop.

Only draw back going studded winter tires is some provinces and states have dates that you have to remove the studded winters (look into provincial or state rules). Regardless of studded or studless winter tires they will out perform all-season tires during the winter months. However, it is nice to pack chains around in the winter just for those emergency cases. Hope this helps with your decision on tire chains.

Can i use snow chain for my honda odyssey minivan? where to buy those special tire snow chain/cable?

The best place to buy cheap Tire Chains and Snow Chains online cheap is at Amazon.com

Winters can be brutal, but you don't have to be stuck indoors if you have the right pair of snow chains for your car.

Snow chains, also known as tire chains, are devices that are fitted to the tires of vehicles to increase their traction when driving through ice or snow. The added weight and increased traction of the tire chains provides a firmer grip, allowing you to handle slippery surfaces with ease. However, chains reduce the top speed of the vehicle.

The number of snow chains that you need for your car will depend on the make and model. Snow chains should be fitted over the driving wheel. To this end, 4WD vehicles should be fitted with four snow chains (or two pairs). For rear-wheel cars, it's best to also use snow chains on both the front and rear wheels because it improves the braking and handling of the car.

Tire chains are easy to fit, but try fitting them in an isolated and dry location before attempting to fit them on the road.

Snow chains can be fit on most cars without the use of a jack as long as there is sufficient clearance between the tire and the vehicle.

*sigh* nobody gives straight answers.

Snow "chains" or other add-on traction devices are perfectly safe with traction control. You can find it at any decent auto parts or tire store. Just ask for it by name "snow chains". They'll ask you for approximate tire size, and hand you a kit with instructions. Put them on the "drive" tires (FWD or RWD). If it's AWD, the rear is probably better.

Remember those are temporary use, and dedicated snow tires are better if you will be doing a lot of driving in winter. The only problem is, of course, you'll need another set of rims.
