We're going during Christmas and besides seeing the Falls, are there recommended restaurants and sites to see?

When we go to the falls, we love going to the Butterfly Museum. It's a lot less "touristy" than some of the other sites, plus very interesting.
Here's the official website:

If you don't mind travelling 15 minutes down the road, Niagara-on-the-Lake is an absoloutely georgeous village. Very nice shopping and restauraunts there. Here's another tourist site for NOTL:

If you're in Niagara-on-the-Lake, you may also want to visit some wineries in the area. Niagara has one of the richest wine regions in the world and many wineries offer free tours and tastings for visitors.

Hope you have a good time -- Niagara Falls has a lot to offer!

Definitely visit a winery for a wine tasting and a gourmet meal. Try to take a trip to Niagra-on-the-Lake too, some great restaurants downtown in 18th century buildings. While you're there you can visit Fort George, an original 18th century fort that played a big part in the War of 1812. The whole area caters to tourists, but if you stay off the main drag at the Falls you'll miss the kitschy stuff. Merry Christmas.

Restaurants for breakfast especially if you are with children is the flying saucer restaurant on lundys lane. Not too far down the road is Factory Outlet Mall good for boxing day shopping. Beside butterfly show there is a bird aviary not too far from the falls. Not many people mention the Welland canal if someone is interested in construction. they have a museum about the construction and operation about canal on one of its seven locks. If you are staying over for new year. take in the free music show with fire works at nine and twelve o clock Merry Xmas and a Happy new year

For a really fun night full of laughs go to the Henry the 8th Feast at the Buttery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. They don't have a web site, but there is an article here:

The oldest Pub is Ontario is across the road from there. The food is pretty good.
