It is true in California it is nearly impossible to get a concealed weapons permit. However being only 18 you can not legally own a pistol, you can only own/purchase Rifles and Shotguns, neither of which are normally concealable in any case.

If you cant locate any info off the web about gun permits, it is a good idea to go down to a local ligitamate gun store and talk to them, they can fill you in on all state and local requirements and could help you find a weapon best suited to your personal protection needs. They can also tell you about any safety courses you will need to take as well (as of 1995 i know it was required to take a saftey course prior to buying a weapon).

If you live in California, it is very difficult, actually near impossible to obtain a Concealed Carry Permit. California is the most liberal/socialist/Anti-Gun state in the country. I live in the confederate states, so legally buying a gun here requires less hassle than waiting at a Mcdonalds Drive thru. Best answer, pack up, move to the south, and start a shootin! O, also you usually need to be 21 for handguns, but you can buy a shotgun since your 18. Hope this helps...

One sure way of getting a license to own a handgun is to have military training. The only person I know in California with a ccw (carry concealed weapon) permit is a deputy sheriff. It is very difficult. Each city or county law enforcement agency has its own rules. LA and SF simply don't issue them if you are not a cop. Other police agencies potentially may be more willing to issue permits, but nothing like several other states.
