I think people who are reading this are automatically assuming the person asking has a legitimate "CD Rom" which may be, in fact, inaccurate

Firstly, physically look at the front of your drive. It will have either a CD-Rom logo, or it will say CD Re-Writeable. If this is the case, I am unaware of any way to force a CD-Rom to read DVD format, as the laser etchings on the DVD are physically smaller than the CD laser can pick up.

Now it MAY have a DVD-Rom logo on the front...or a DVD +/- Re-Writable logo on there. If this is the case, yes you can watch DVD's on your computer.

also, some newer computers have flaps covering the physical drive...if this is the case, hit the eject button and read the front of the CD/DVD tray

answering a question with a "lol" is absolutely not helpful...for the record

No way it would work, even if you have programs to run DVD sure it won't work, that's why it's called CD drive (means only for CD), but DVD drive can run CD type. Buy DVD drive to use your DVD's, it's only almost double the price of a CD drive.

Well, if your PC or laptop is not too old, it usually can. You can too check on your D or E drive and see whether there is a 'DVD R/RW' on your drive.
