Invented by those who knew one has to bow to get up ...... compromise for gain. A purely economic concept not quite palatable philosophically. In reality there is no win-win...... every win is balanced by a loss, whether we know or not.

The concept of win win is made popular by author Stephen Covey in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Covey list it as habit number 4 Think Win/Win - Principles of interpersonal leadership.

But I remembered hearing the phrase back in the late 70s', when QC (Quality Circle) was the market talk. No further details that I can come up with :-(

Its called the Game Theory...and the win-win idea was introduced by John Nash...a princeton math prof.

--------------

[showing Charles one of his window equations]
NASH: This is a group playing touch football. This is a flock of pigeons fighting over bread crumbs. And this is a woman chasing a man who stole her purse.
CHARLES: John, you watched a mugging. That's weird.
NASH: In competitive behavior someone always loses.
CHARLES: Well, my niece knows that, John, and she's about this high.
NASH: See if I derive an equilibrium where prevalence is a non-singular event where nobody loses, can you imagine the effect that would have on conflict scenarios, arm negotiations...
CHARLES: When did you last eat?
NASH: ...currency exchange?
CHARLES: When did you last eat? You know, food.
NASH: You have no respect for cognitive reverie, you know that?
CHARLES: Yes. But pizza - now, pizza I have enormous respect for. And of course beer.
[leaves]
NASH: [throws stuff down and follows] I have respect for beer. I have respect for beer!

its not a philosophy as much as it is a concept:

an easy win-win is donating to the salvation army for christmas. your giving to poor, and although it seems your losing money, your ultimately gaining a tax break, which will give you your money right back.

you can find them in many situations, and when you do, good job, because they dont happen very often.
